BOLD JOURNEY, 2023 INTERVIEW WITH DONNA WERKING OF NORTHERN AZ SOCIAL, LLC - SPECIAL FEATURE

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful contribution my parents did for me is to move me around to different cities in my youth. At the time it didn’t seem beneficial, but now as a marketer, I have found that change is a critical component to our success. To be able to problem solve, adopt new technologies and move with the flow. In our industry, specifically with digital, applications are changing so rapidly that you must be able to adapt.

NEW YEAR'S EVE BOOT DROP

CREATING A PRESCOTT, ARIZONA TRADITION

A candid Interview with Boot Drop Co-Founder, Donna Werking

HOW DID THE NEW YEAR'S EVE BOOT DROP BEGIN?

In late 2010, Donna Werking was aiding the City of Prescott’s Tourism team partnered with a local advertising agency as an independent marketer. “A desired goal was to increase bed tax dollars for the city. At the time, there was a lack of events held in Prescott after Acker Night. The tourism gap ran from mid-December through March. After the City of Prescott passed on the endeavor, Werking decided to move forward on the concept she created. After many conversations between Werking and a local Prescott Ad Agency, two more partners were brought on to expedite this new venture: Great Circle Radio and the Prescott Chamber. Together, we launched this signature New Year’s Eve Event for Prescott, Arizona” stated Donna Werking, owner of Northern AZ Social, LLC and Boot Drop Co-Founder.

She continues, “Before aiding the City of Prescott, I recently held the position as Director of Corporate Sales with the Arizona Sundogs Hockey Club. A large part of my position was to create new events and promotions for the team. This new venture was another welcomed challenge for me. Working with the city as a marketer was exciting! I was eager with much time on my hands. Bringing a new tradition to our community became a goal we all set to achieve.”

CANVAS REBEL INTERVIEW WITH NORTHERN AZ SOCIAL, LLC

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

In 2009, I left a corporate sales and marketing position and wanted to focus on marketing primarily as my next career move. I worked as a marketing representative within my city’s tourism department. I observed small businesses in other towns grow their audience because they were connecting and networking on Facebook and Twitter. I immediately thought that’s our niche! No one else is doing this in Prescott, AZ. In 2015, I launched the first-ever social media based agency in the Prescott, Arizona. Prescott is a small, growing town and social media hadn’t reached our area like it had in the big cities. The first pivot was identifying how I would find success by creating my own agency and educating businesses about what social media could do for them.

Why Hire A Local Advertising Agency

Why hire a local marketing agency?

By Clare Lei, Account Executive

It is always surprising how many local small businesses have logos, websites, advertisements, etc. that do not truly reflect who they are as a business and do not speak to their target audience. Businesses should want to work with a local marketing agency for a more individualized approach for your business to the community.

Ringing in the New Year is a cause for celebration, for spending time with friends and family, and for offering Happy New Year wishes. A lot can happen in a year and between the good and the bad. As glasses are raised and fireworks explode into the sky,

it’s important to recognize the special symbolism that the New Year brings. This New Year speaks to new beginnings and fresh starts, as well as a time of reflection. We should all be grateful for new beginnings and toast everyone the virtue of good health, happiness and prosperity.

Marketing vs advertising Sepia .jpg

What is the Difference Between Marketing and Advertising?

Marketing is a way to identify what your customers need, define your product, and promote it so consumers are aware of your company and its products or services.

Advertising is the process of using paid media to tell consumers about a product, what it does, and how it can help them. Advertising is ultimately just a component of marketing.

Retargeting: Second Line of Defense in Digital Marketing

by Erika Yadron, Intern, Northern AZ Social, LLC

Retargeting, also known as remarketing, is a form of online advertising that keeps your product or service in the direct path of customers who previously visited a website.

Used through Facebook, Google, Yahoo and others, the key is to stick relevant ads that do not require buying in other websites during the potential customer’s web-surfing experience.

Google Ads: Custom Web Advertisements Made Simple and Effective

by Erika Yadron, Intern, Northern AZ Social, LLC

The worldwide search engine Google.com performs 2.3 million detailed searches for its users every second.

Yielding pages of results upon hitting “enter,” there is almost always a perfectly placed ad or two at the top of the list. These ads are made possible by the paid auctioning process of Google AdWords where advertisers engage in a pay-per-click bid to have their business ad in the eyes of potential customers.

Q&A – Donna Werking,

Owner of Northern AZ Social, LLC

Q: What brought you to Prescott, and how long have you been here?

A: I spent my last three years of high school on the East Coast in Delaware. Once I graduated, I was offered a full ride academic and volleyball scholarship to DSU, but Arizona was calling me back. My immediate family lives in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area. However, my grandparents lived in Prescott, AZ, at the time — a more desirable place for me. I relocated to Prescott to continue my college education and have now lived here for 25 years.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Donna Werking and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donna, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?

I moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1995. I was invested in the community from the beginning. I was young, hungry and motivated to help others. In my twenties,  I worked for a sports organization and I was introduced to corporate practices, tight deadlines, spontaneous demands and long work hours. I not only built my reputation with this career path, but my exposure to this environment made it much easier for me to launch Northern AZ Social, LLC in 2015. Reputation is your brand in a small town.

Is It Time to Update Your Company Website?

By Donna Werking

The internet was introduced to consumers in 1969, however, it wasn’t until 1990 when one of the largest advancements was written, called the World Wide Web. This progression led to the first web page in 1991. With the nature of technology, it seems impossible to keep up. As a business owner, it’s essential to pay attention to the changes that could affect your business. For most consumers today, the first impression of a company is usually through their website. Ask yourself, “When was the last time I reviewed my website and does it speak well for my product or service?”Also, if a company’s website does not appear on the first page in a specific search, you may want to schedule a review. The following check list should help with your analysis.

Why is it Important to Claim Your Online Business Listings?

By Donna Werking

Have you ever ‘Googled’ your own business to see what listing websites generate your company profile? Have you ever seen your business in a website like Manta or Yelp, yet you don’t recall adding yourself to this online listing service? As a business owner, you focus so much on how your company is marketed and branded through print, television and radio advertising, but what may be the most important media outlet is found digitally. Why you ask? Online directory listings are on the internet 24/7 and if you haven’t claimed these listings, you may have the wrong information reaching potential customers, not enough information on the web, or find bad reviews or comments that could be affecting your productivity.

How Social Media should Complement but NOT
Replace your Traditional Marketing?

By Donna Werking

There’s no question that social media has become a marketing staple for business in the two-tens. The 2014 Marketing Fact Pack shows that internet marketing has moved to the second largest spending medium, just behind television since 2012. It’s proven to be inexpensive and effective; however, it would be a blunder for any business to replace their traditional marketing exclusively for social media. Social media should be integrated with a traditional marketing campaign to be ultimately successful. You can unite the two for measurable results.
